Project Brief
For this project, the objective was to create four postcards that adhered to USPS regulations, making them suitable for mailing. The creative freedom we had extended to choosing our own thematic concept for the postcards, allowing us to explore our unique imaginations.
Theme
My chosen theme revolves around an adventurous cat. This feline character is an avid explorer, leading us through various serene landscapes and captivating environments on each card. These scenes offer unique perspectives and color palettes, catering to the essence of travel, which is often associated with postcards. I aimed to ensure that each card told its own story, inviting the recipient to embark on an adventure alongside our traveling kitty.
Inspiration
What makes this theme particularly meaningful to me is that the design of the cat is inspired by my beloved childhood pet, who has since passed away. This theme holds a deep sense of nostalgia and sentimentality, keeping my cherished pet's memory alive.
Process/Tools
My usual tool of choice is Adobe Illustrator. However, this time, I drew inspiration from digital art with expressive brush strokes and a hand-painted appearance that Illustrator couldn't replicate. Hence, I turned to Adobe Fresco. Despite having limited experience with Fresco, I challenged myself to master its use. Focusing solely on the round oil paint brush, I set aside the distractions of other brushes. The process began with sketching out my ideas, followed by experimenting with various color palettes I found online. My approach involved layering details, starting with solid colors, followed by the addition of shadows, highlights, and intricate elements.

During the Work in Progress (WIP) stage, I encountered time constraints and the frustration of not achieving my envisioned results. The initial version felt lackluster, with inconsistencies in the cat's appearance across different cards, incorrect proportions, and an overall unsatisfactory aesthetic. Disappointed with my progress, I realized the need to slow down and give myself ample time to learn. By deliberately pacing myself, I revisited and refined my WIPs to align with my artistic vision. This deliberate approach yielded more dynamic and visually appealing results. The extra effort invested in refining my work was undoubtedly rewarding.

Final Thoughts
This project taught me invaluable lessons. Firstly, I learned the importance of patience and taking my time when creating art. Art should never become a source of stress but should serve as an opportunity for growth and learning. Additionally, I discovered that by pushing my boundaries and challenging myself, I could achieve greater progress than I initially believed possible. The realization that perfection isn't a prerequisite for beautiful artwork underscores the human element and beauty in the imperfections.
